LRT free-fare zone extension rejected

The city has rejected a bid to extend the free-fare LRT zone.

Council scrapped the proposal to extend the zone to Stampede Park because Calgary Transit would lose about nearly $2-million annually.

The idea was to attract more events to the Stampede, luring attendees with free C-Train service.

Administration will look into alternatives like incorporating a special tourist transit card into the new electronic pass system to launch next year.
