Crews inspect broken water main pipe

Excavation crews are digging to expose a failed section of a water transmission line in the northeast community of Rundle.
The water main break shot a geyser of water thirty feet into the air for about five hours on Thursday, badly damaging a garage.
Within a taped-off perimeter, a track machine is clawing dirt out of the ground to expose the failed transmission line so engineers can determine what to do next.
Chris Houston with City Water Services says they’re already getting an idea of what went wrong.
” It looks like it’s an isolated incident. It looks like there was some sort of damage done to the pipe at some point,” says Houston.
He adds, they’ll have to replace a 24-foot-long pipe and then crews will start looking at surrounding ones to make sure no other pipes are damaged.
No water service has been affected by the water main break because it was not a distribution pipe.
