Province launches new emergency alert system

Alberta’s minister of municipal affairs was in Calgary Tuesday to officially launch the province’s new emergency alert system.
The first province-wide test of the system is just weeks away.
The switch from analog to digital means emergency alerts will not only reach Albertans through traditional cut-ins via broadcast media but also through social media, like Facebook and Twitter.
Municipal Affairs Minister Hector Goudreau says it will increase the odds of getting more Albertans the critical information they need in the event of an emergency or disaster.
“Whether it’s an Amber Alert, a natural disaster or a human-made hazard, when an alert happens we want Albertans to stop what they’re doing, listen to the alert and respond,” says Goudreau.
