Calgary hosts long-weekend events

After rain and colder than usual weather over the last few days, the sun will shine bringing warmer temperatures with it.
If you plan to enjoy the last long-weekend of the summer camping, you can plan to roast marshmallows over a camp fire.
Thanks to recent rains and wet weather, fire bans at nearby campgrounds have been lifted.
Police agencies in the province have a message for people planning to hit the highway on the final long-weekend of summer.
Not only will they be cracking down on speeders and aggressive drivers, officers will also be enforcing the province’s distracted drivers law.
But if you’d rather not leave the City, Calgary also has a list of events going on over the weekend.
The Calgary Dyke March, a lesbian and women’s rights event, starts at noon Saturday in Shaw Millennium Park.
Springbank Park will be host to the 2011 Calgary Highland Games on Saturday, featuring traditional piping, dancing, caber tossing, and a team tug-o-war competitions.
Canada Olympic Park will be packed this weekend, as the facility plays host to the Winsport Canada Cup.
The event will see a group of bold adrenaline junkies surging downhill in a series of races featuring so-called ‘gravity sports’.
Anyone attending the free event can also check out the two beer gardens with DJs and live bands.
Just south of the City in Okotoks, the Olde Towne Okotoks Country Fair runs Saturday with a pet parade, wagon rides, petting zoo, and an arts & culture festival.

And the main attraction of the weekend?
Calgary’s annual Pride Parade on Sunday!
Grand Marshal, Mayor Naheed Nenshi will lead the parade from Olympic Plaza starting at noon.
Of course with Labour Day Weekend, comes an exciting weekend in CFL football.
The Stampeders host the injury plagued Eskimos in the Labour Day Classic on Monday.
Kick off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.
