The 40 passengers and crew who lost their lives aboard Flight 93 on September 11th, 2001 have been remembered as selfless heroes during a somber ceremony in rural Pennsylvania on Saturday.
During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Vice-President Joe Biden.
Clinton told the crowd, the passengers were courageous: “They gave the entire country an incalculable gift. They saved the capital from attack, they saved God knows how many lives. They saved the terrorists from claiming the symbolic victory of smashing the centre of American government.”
Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan, who performed during the ceremony, says she was honoured to be involved.
Muddy fields complicated parking and heavy security delayed the start of the ceremony to dedicate the first phase of the $62 million Flight 93 National Memorial.
