Calgary’s Terry Fox Run draws 1,600 participants

It was perfect weather for Canada’s biggest group run!

Over a thousand Calgarians made it out to Eau Claire Market for the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.

Athletes of all ages made their way to the market to take on distances of one, five and 10 kms.

Olympian and Calgary spokesperson for the run, Christine Nesbitt, said it’s a relief to see an increased number of participants in 2011, even though many still ran through the tough conditions last year.

“People just braving the weather and saying well you know, Terry did it, we can do it too,” she said. “It’s for such a good cause and today, it’s such a beautiful day, getting even more people out and many more kids this year I think.”

Organizers were also able to break their fundraising total from 2010, raking in $180,000 from the one-day event.

Last year, the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope celebrated its 30th anniversary.
