Province testing Public Alert System

Alberta will test a new public alert system that uses broadcast and social media to inform the public about emergencies.

The alert will be issued at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday, and will be heard on 660News.

Provincial officials hope the test will help people recognize the new alert when a real emergency takes place.

The new alert system includes a dedicated website and the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
