Fatal plane crash in Yellowknife

Two people have been killed and seven others injured, after a float plane crashed on a Yellowknife street.
RCMP say four of the seven have been critically injured.

The Twin Otter owned by Arctic Sunwest Charters crashed just after 1:00 p.m in an area known as Old Town.

RCMP Constable Kathy Law said she doesn’t know if it was landing or taking off, but it came down between two buildings.

Law could not say whether there was anyone in the area where the plane crashed.

CJCD reporter Katherine Barton tells 660News the crash has rocked the community.

“To have a northern crash just a month ago and now for this to happen, in literally our own backyard is a tragedy and to have two people dead, it’s a close knit community.  I’m already hearing from people and reporters who are saying they knew people on the plane.”
