This article is more than 5 years old.
It has sat idle and vacant for the last 17 years, but the owners of the old Molson Brewery have plans in place for what’s considered one of the country’s most notable historical sites.
The Calgary Herald reports AECO Holdings has hired an American design firm to draft a conceptual plan for the brewery site which first graced the Calgary skyline back in 1893.
Parker Hogan, a spokesperson for Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, says the site has been identified as one of the top 10 heritage properties in the country.
Two years ago the owners applied for demolition permits for some of the more rundown buildings at the Inglewood site, just off Deerfoot Trail. But the provincial Department of Culture and Community Spirit ordered a historical assessment instead.
At this point there is no indication as to what buildings might be preserved and how the site might be utilized.
