Surviving the holidays with family

There’s an added stress that comes with required quality family time and it tends to be heightened during the holidays.

Dianna Campbell-Smith, director of counselling initiative at the Calgary Counselling Centre, says you have to go into the holidays as positive as possible.

“Sometimes our families are pretty challenging and there’s a lot going on that day and people get kind of stressed.  It’s just to take it as easy and as relaxed as you can,” she says.

Smith adds, any problems should be addressed ahead of time. If a problem does arise, try and change conversation or take a time out.
