Firefighters go door knocking during National Fire Prevention Week

As part of National Fire Prevention Week the Calgary Fire Department will be out in full force with its annual smoke alarm blitz.

Spokesperson Brian McAsey tells 660News Calgary Fire will be going door to door making sure every homes has a smoke detector.

“Over the last 11 years we’ve given away 20,000 smoke alarms. We make it part of our mission to go in the neighbourhoods and knock on doors and make sure everyone is fire safe, and part of that is making sure they have a proper smoke detector in their house and if they don’t, we’re going to help them out with one,” says McAsey.

He adds in addition to handing out new smoke alarms, the CFD has also replaced more than 14,000 batteries over the years.
