Canucks drop 3-2 decision to Oilers

EDMONTON, AB (NEWS1130) – Jordan Eberle opened the scoring early in the second period and then Shawn Horcoff and Taylor Hall scored 57 seconds apart as the Edmonton Oilers edged the Vancouver Canucks 3-2.
Eberle’s opener came 1:53 into the second period and it gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead as he took a cross-ice pass from Hall and snapped it past Roberto Luongo.
The Oilers extended their lead at the 5:58 mark of the middle frame when Shawn Horcoff finished off a wrap-around attempt from Ryan Smyth.
Just 57 seconds later Luongo was beat again after he had a miscue playing the puck behind the net. Hall was the one who eventually batted it in.
Hall’s goal was the third Luongo allowed in just 14 shots, which caused Alain Vigneault to replace him with Cory Schneider.
The Canucks did get on the scoreboard before the second period ended. Cody Hodgson picked up a loose puck and beat Nikolai Khabibulin for his second goal of the year.
In the third period the Canucks came out strong as they looked to pull themselves back into the game. With just over 12 minutes remaining a Sami Salo slapshot rebounded right onto the stick of Henrik Sedin. He sent it right over to Alex Burrows and he slid it in to make it a one goal game.
That was as close as the Canucks would come though as they couldn’t find an equalizer.
The Canucks will return to Vancouver to face the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
