David Milgaard arrested for domestic dispute

After spending 23 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, David Milgaard is once again trouble with the law.

Milgaard was arrested after police were called to a Calgary home Wednesday morning.

“At approximately 8:00 a.m., Calgary Police received a report of a domestic dispute between a male and female resident in the 6300 block of Simcoe Road Southwest,” says Duty Insp. Chris Butler.

The 59-year-old was charged later that evening with assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

“There were no injuries in the incident and Mr. Milgaard has since been released on his recognizance,” says Butler.

Police are remaining tight-lipped on what kind of a weapon was involved.

Milgaard had no comment for reporters waiting outside the Arrest Processing Unit, after his release.

He currently lives in Calgary with his wife and two young children.

A court date has been set for Nov. 3.

Milgaard was wrongfully convicted in the death of Saskatoon nursing student Gail Miller and released from prison in 1993.

DNA evidence later helped to prove another man was the real killer.

The Saskatchewan government has formally apologized to Milgaard and paid him $10-million in compensation.
