Calgarians stand up for Tibet in protest

In the last several months 10 Tibetans as young as 17-years-old have sacrificed their lives in a desperate attempt to show the world that Tibetans are suffering under Chinese authorities.
As of March of this year the situation in Tibet has intensified with increasing cases of suicide as young Tibetans, who find China’s occupation and repression of Tibet intolerable, set themselves on fire.
In Calgary, protestors marched from the Chinese Consulate to Olympic Plaza to draw attention to the state of the country on Wednesday.
Kathleen, who was among the protestors, tells 660News they’re urging for a global intervention in Tibet.
“We’re just trying to draw attention to their acts of desperation. We don’t support that action, but we’re trying to bring attention to it and end it.”
Of the 10 Tibetans who have ignited themselves, six have died of severe burns and four are reportedly in hospital.
