Alberta’s justice minister says it’s full steam ahead for a drunk-driving bill despite a court ruling striking down parts of similar legislation in British Columbia.
Verlyn Olson says proposed changes to Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act are different from the ones rejected by the BC Supreme Court.
BC drivers who blow over the legal limit during roadside screenings have their licence suspended for 90 days before the results are confirmed by a breathalyzer or any charges are laid.
Plans are for Alberta drivers to be hit with even longer suspensions if they’re caught over the limit, but they wouldn’t kick in until roadside results were confirmed and a charge laid.
