Support for Keystone XL pipeline

A former national security advisor to President Barack Obama has been enlisted by the American Petroleum Institute to push for the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Ret. General Jim Jones says he can’t believe a decision on the massive pipeline project from northern Alberta to the U.S. Gulf Coast has been put off until after the 2012 U.S. presidential election.

Jones says America needs Canada’s oil for both strategic and economic reasons.

“Every day it becomes more evident that for our nation to achieve true energy security we must engage our stable, steady and reliable neighbours, Canada in particular,” says Jones.

A prominent local businessman spoke out on the subject as well.   Former Dragon’s Den star, Brett Wilson, says those that oppose the pipeline need to look at the bigger picture

Wilson says he’s pro-oilsands development as long as it occurs in a measured, reasonable and environmentally-responsible way.  He says he has a problem with Hollywood celebrities piping up to stop the pipeline, saying their comments and actions disrupt the real world for the sake of what he calls their, “little moments on the podium.”
