Nanton residents in shock after fire

The grass fire is out near Nanton, but there will be lots of rebuilding ahead.

Five homes, seven outbuildings, and parked cars were destroyed or badly damaged when a wind fuelled fire tore through a number of properties, south east of the town.  Officials say it was sparked when a power pole came down.

Along with feelings of shock and disbelief, residents are also expressing concern about old and possibly rotten electrical poles simply snapping off in high winds, sparking future fires.

There were no injuries and one female was taken to hospital for minor treatment of breathing difficulties.

The fire consumed an area approximately 60 square kilometres.
