Crash kills two in alcohol involved collision

Charges are expected against the lone survivor of the city’s first alcohol related collision causing fatalities for 2012.
Emergency crews responded to a crash at the intersection of Shaganappi Trail and Country Hills Boulevard just after 3:00 a.m Sunday morning.
Witnesses say a Toyota Yaris traveling at a high rate of speed ran a red light before crashing into a Mercedes Sedan.
As a result, the driver of the Mercedes, a 20 year old man, and the passenger of the Toyota Yaris, a 20 year old woman, were killed.
The driver of the Toyota Yaris, a 25 year old woman, was transported to Foothills Hospital where she remains in non-life threatening condition.
Duty Inspector Curtis Olson say the investigation continues but charges are pending against the 25 year old driver.
He says these type of accidents are especially tragic because they are completely preventable.
“Tragic for the families, they’re tragic for friends and our officers that attend the scene early, and our entire community. You know, always tragic when alcohol is involved, you know it’s always an preventable type of collision,” he says.
The intersection remained closed for over six hours.
