Food assessment launched

Healthy nutritious food may soon be an option for everyone thanks to an initiative from the city.
The Calgary Food Committee has launched a Food System Assessment and Action Plan in hopes of improving access to everyone around the region.
A public consultation process will begin over the winter and a report will then be tabled for council in April.
“The Food Assessment is about gathering all of the information and work being done in the city so that we can prioritize actions in order to strengthen the local economy, improve access to healthy and affordable food, and reduce our impact on the environment,” said Alderman Gian-Carlo Carra.
He adds “This food assessment is going to be a global look at where our food comes from, what are the inputs into getting it to table and what are the barriers to getting it to table.”
