Mayor Naheed Nenshi wrapped up the 23rd annual Mayor’s Food Drive at St. Margaret school Monday.
St. Margaret was chosen for the celebration because it won the Food Banks first ever “Can Creation” contest, building an entire city of the donated goods.
Over $450,000 dollars worth of food was collected in the month long campaign, a majority coming from city students.
The mayor says he couldn’t be happier.
“I’m so excited to see little grade one kids who get it. And you know something, the fact that they are doing this work now means that they are creating a habit for a lifetime and they will be serving the community forever,” says Nenshi.
The food bank is reminding us that between now and Easter is when they see a drop in donations.
