RIM changes CEOs to turn fortunes around

There’s a big shake up at Research in Motion, where after a year of plunging fortunes, smart phone pioneers Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis are stepping down from their Chief Executive Officer roles.
Thorsten Heins, who has served as Chief Operating Officer for the last four years, takes over the reins as CEO immediately.
Former Toronto Stock Exchange Chief Barbara Stymiest, who has served as a director of the company, becomes the independent chair of the RIM board.
Lazaridis, who actually invented the Blackberry, will remain as vice chair of the board but Balsille has relinquished all operational control and will serve solely as a director of the company.
Vic Alboini, who has been leading the shareholder revolt calling for the shake up of RIM, tells the Toronto Star the move is a good first step but doesn’t go far enough.
