SAIT reacts to drug overdoes

SAIT is reaching out to its students, staff and faculty today, after a student died on campus from an apparent drug overdose on the weekend.
Hiedi Sparks says the school is offering counselling to anyone who wants help.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this terrible news and our deepest condolences and sympathy go out to the family and friends of the deceased as they deal with this terrible loss,” adds Sparks.
It was one of two suspected overdose deaths in southern Alberta this weekend and police are awaiting toxicology results before they can confirm whether they’re related to a tainted batch of ecstasy that has claimed several lives in Calgary.
One student tells 660News, everyone on campus is talking about the death.
Another says while it is sad, it is not shocking. “From what I hear, the shipments have been coming in stronger and for cheaper, that’s why these kids are overdosing.”
