The Calgary Board of Education has a new governance policy following a unanimous decision Tuesday.
As a result, the board will no longer have to vote on funding decisions worth over $500-thousand in addition to other financing decisions like bussing fees.
Instead, the board will receive quarterly finance reports on how the money was spent by administrators.
Opponents of the decision say money will be spent without the input of the public and their elected officials.
Trustee Chair Pat Cochrane says the board’s responsibility is to set up the CBE’s governance framework not to govern.
