New neo-natal beds for ACH

The province announced 14 new, neo-natal intensive care beds for the Alberta Children’s hospital Wednesday.

Premier Alison Redford says, the additional beds will not only improve care but reduce the transfer of infant patients between hospitals.

“It really allows for the delivery of services and technologies in a way that’s really going to make it easier for kids to get the support they need and really to create a working environment where doctors can respond as quickly as they want to to what they need to do,” said Redford.

The additional beds are scheduled to open next year and will increase the ICU capacity at the Children’s hospital by 56 per cent.

The beds were made possible through a $5-million donation from philanthropists Heather and Murray Edwards of Calgary.
