Calgarian marks milestone donating blood

A Calgary man has become only the second person in the country to donate blood 1,000 times to Canadian Blood Services.
Ken Zachery hit the milestone on January 19th.
The 59-year-old tells The Calgary Herald he’s given blood since he was 17, giving plasma and platelets which allows him to donate as often as once a week.
Zachery says he met a few people in Ottawa who would have died without his donations, which is why he keeps giving.
An Edmonton man holds the record with 1,003 donations.
