CO detector prevents potential tragedy

A carbon monoxide detector may have saved a Calgary woman’s life Sunday night.
Firefighters were alerted to a working detector at 7:40 p.m. and when they arrived at the home on 34th Avenue N.W. found the victim who had become ill.
She was transferred to the care of EMS while a second person in the home was not treated.
Battalion Chief Don Huska says CO levels were pegged at more than 70 parts per million.
“We consider evacuating elderly and pregnant people at around 12 parts per million and we evacuate occupants at 50 parts per million, so it was definitely high.” said Huska.
The home was ventilated and Atco Gas is investigating the source of the carbon monoxide.
