Fire crews used a slow but steady approach to putting out a fire inside a woodworking shop Sunday afternoon.
Just before 3:00 p.m. crews headed out to the 600 block of 37th Avenue northeast where they found a working fire inside a collection hopper at the back of the building.
The hopper was designed to collect sawdust from inside the shop and as a result it caused heavy smoke in the area.
Crews cut power to the hopper bins and opened them up to put out the blaze but the cold temperature caused the metal surfaces to become very slippery which hampered firefighting efforts.
Crews then worked slowly to keep the dust from stirring and causing an explosion.
No injuries were reported and there is no estimate on damage yet, though it is expected to be extensive.
The cause is unknown.
