Solar storm expected to hit Earth

A massive solar storm is expected to hit our planet Thursday morning and could disrupt power grids and long-haul flights.

According to space scientist Joe Kunches, the flare could also set off problems for morning commuters trying to find their way.

“It’s very possible that for certain types of GPS-type applications, certainly the more exotic or high-precision ones, there will be some interruptions to that service,” Kunches said.

Planes may have to avoid flying over the north and south poles.

But on the upside, some people up north are going to get quite a show – with the Aurora Borealis expected to be spectacular.
