Investigation continues into solider “rampage”

American military personnel in Afghanistan remain on high-alert after a U.S. soldier went on a deadly shooting rampage killing 16 civilians including many women and children.

As a result of the shootings and the recent burnings of copies of the Quran, the Taliban is vowing revenge.

US officials believe the soldier in question acted alone, but some Afghan parliamentarians speculate whether others were involved, claiming it would be impossible for one soldier to cover the ground between the houses that were attacked.

The accused is an army staff sergeant from Washington State, who has served up to five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

US National Security advisor Patrick Hatcher suggests the solider probably cracked under the stress of war.
