Teen charged with attempted murder

A Teenager has been charged after a 17-year-old boy was pulled from a burning home in Fort Macleod.

The victim was airlifted by STARS to Foothills Hospital Saturday and is now listed in stable condition following surgery.

RCMP say their investigation led them to charge another young person with attempted murder and four counts of arson with disregard to life.

Sergeant Patricia Neeley says there were signs of an assault.

“We do know that when this 17-year-old was located in the fire and taken to hospital that his injuries were not consistent with having occurred in the fire, an investigation ensued at that point and they were able to locate the suspect,” said Sgt. Neeley.

The attack is not believed to be gang or drug related.

Police have not released the age of the accused youth who made his first appearance in Lethbridge court Wednesday.
