The long overdue Calgary’s Peace Bridge is set to open to pedestrian and cyclist traffic today!
A two hour celebration kicks off at 2pm with a blessing from a First Nations elder, after which stilt-walkers will guide the public, in parade form, across the span.
Cheri McCauley, a community volunteer tells 660News the party will be at the south end of the bridge in Peace Park.
“The north end will be blocked off until 2:15pm. There’s a marathon running on the north river path, so we’ll all gather on the south end for our festivities and the entertainment that will unfold,” she says.
The celebration will include performances by local poets, bands and dance groups.
