CPS defends accidental shooting

Calgary police are defending one of their veteran officers who accidentally fired his gun into an occupied home.
Police were at a housing unit Thursday night on Discovery Ridge Hill southwest, when they say a woman confronted them with a knife.
She was tasered and arrested.
After that, police realized one room had not been cleared so a 12 year veteran went in and that’s when he unintentionally fired his gun.
Deputy Chief Trevor Daroux says he understands why the officer had his gun drawn.
“In this situation, it’s very dynamic, it’s very dangerous and it’s a situation in a very much confined space,” said Daroux.
The bullet entered a neighbouring home in the housing unit, but nobody was hurt.
The Professional Standards Section is investigating the incident and charges are pending against the woman.
