Millions worth of cocaine seized

Close to $2.5 million worth of cocaine has been seized by Calgary and Edmonton police.

The province wide investigation also netted several arrests within the drug trafficking organization being investigated.

Officers began to look into the organization in the middle of January after 12 kilograms of the drug was found in a passenger’s bag after arriving at the YYC.  At the same time in Edmonton, a vehicle and two homes were searched resulting in the seizure of five kilograms of cocaine.

“The collaboration between law enforcement partners was a key factor in the success of this investigation,” said CFSEU-Calgary’s Inspector Gerry François. “We believe that this organized crime group was in the process of setting up their business here, but we were able to intercede before they established a foot-hold.”

Arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime are Airdrie residents, Trieu Minh Nguyen and Khanh Duy Pham as well as Amir Rashidinejad from Vancouver.

In Edmonton Sean Moore, Grant Lewis and Tawnee Mihalcea face a combined 36 charges.
