Calgarians honoured with Diamond Jubilee Medal

Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor presented more than two dozen Calgarians with special medals at a ceremony at McDougall Centre on Monday.
The new Diamond Jubilee medal is administered by the governor general’s office, created to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne.
The honourable Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, Donald Ethell, presented the medals to recipients he says have made a lasting difference to the quality of life in Canada and Alberta.
“To celebrate those citizens who have played an active role in maintaining the principles that unite us and define who we are as Canadians,” sais Ethell.
Among those honoured, 12 were for outstanding military service and 18 went to recipients who are either members or officers of the Order of Canada.
