The driver of a school bus in Sylvan Lake narrowly avoided a serious collision with an SUV with a full bus of 72 kids on their way home Thursday.
The 18-year-old SUV driver failed to proceed with caution through a busy intersection after obeying a stop sign.
But thanks to a quick reaction the bus driver was able to slow down enough to prevent further damage.
As for the kids, Cpl. Kevin Halwa said two students and the driver were sent to hospital with minor injuries.
“We work very closely with the school in these sort of situations,” he said. “The secretary of the school was feverishly working the phones, letting the parents know and the students did go home a little late, but they were fine.”
The 18-year-old is being charged with failing to proceed safely after stopping at an intersection.
