Iron Ride for ALS

Despite a few weather and road obstacles, three motorcyclists are riding across the country in an effort to raise money for ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Hal Spelliscy, Blane Despres and Kevin Mason are in the process of completing a 5900 kilometre ride between Halifax and Vancouver in 90 hours or less.

Hal, who’s sister Ann has lived with the neuromuscular disease for 23 years tells 660News the ride has been a challenge, forcing them to miss Calgary altogether.

“We were coming in from Manitoba made it across Saskatchewan through Medicine Hat towards Brooks but then the weather turned bad on us, ended up realizing the mudslide at Golden which has closed that road,” Spelliscy says.

The money raised will go towards the ALS Centre at Vancouver’s GF Strong Rehabilitation Hospital and Spelliscy says they’re looking to raise $50,000.
