Fall out from oil leak

The waiting is starting to wear on the people of Glennifer Lake.

Recreational users and people who own lots along the lake will be spending another weekend out of the water as Plains Midstream Canada continues to clean up a spill of thousands of litres of oil.

A pipeline sprung a leak a week ago and the oil was washed into the Red Deer river and downstream into the reservoir.

Diane Bender with Glennifer Lake Resort and Paradise Realty says sales have dried up and rentals are on shaky ground.

“We have had about nine cancellations, lots are sitting on the fence just waiting, there is a cancellation policy, so you have to cancel within 21 days, so I anticipate the longer we don’t hear the lake’s open it’s going to create more problems,” said Bender.

Plains Midstream will be updating the situation Saturday morning at Glennifer Lake Resort.
