Two people have been arrested and charged in connection to a sophisticated drug bust in the city’s northeast and police are seeking a third.
According to Calgary police, it comes as a result of a three week investigation thanks to tips from the public.
District 4 Staff Sgt. Geoff Gawlinski says the case involved a traffic stop and the search of two homes; the first in the 0-100 block of Coventry Green N.E. while the other was in the 8200 block of 4 St. N.E.
Gawlinski says officers seized 20 kilograms of marijuana, 0.5 kilograms of magic mushrooms, various amounts of cannabis resin, heroin and cocaine, as well as $70,000 in cash, a .22-calibre air gun and three machetes.
Investigators have charged 28-year-olds Helena Berman and Jonathan Berman.
Not much is known about the pair, Gawlinski will confirm that the two were living with each other.
“We have no reason to believe any known organizational groups are linked to this at this time,” he says. “But obviously they’re buying in bulk and that’s how the profit can be made – when you sell it in smaller quantities.”
In total, a street value of $108,000 of marijuana was seized.
The couple has been released and has a pending court date to answer to the charges.
In the meantime, a warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Tyler Stewart.
He’s described as white, 5’9″ tall, 230 lbs, with a heavy build, blonde hair, blue eyes and a goatee.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers immediately.
