Transit fare hikes may be on the horizon

It could cost more to ride public transit during peak times and over longer routes as the city leaves it to commuters to pick up the slack for funding cuts.

A report coming out Wednesday says the demand for transit in residential areas isn’t being matched by funding increases.

According to The Calgary Herald, the report recommends hiking rates during the rush hour as well as moving to a zone-based fare system.

Council will also revisit the $3 daily Park and Ride fee that was nixed last year.
