Busy summer for Alberta school maintenance crews

Before children head back to class, a number of repairs, ranging from roof leaks to science lab renovations, need to happen.
The President of the Alberta School Boards Association puts the price tag of school maintenance at $1.2-billion.
Jacquie Hansen tells 660News because of a funding shortfall, boards across the province have to prioritize which jobs will be done first.
Over the past six years, the province has committed $600-million to school infrastructure improvements.
Hansen says the ASBA will continue to put pressure on the government to increase maintenance budgets for school boards.
She also says they will keep a close eye on Premier Alison Redford to make sure she follows through on her promise to build 50 new schools and renovate 70 others over the next four years.
Hansen says with half of the province’s schools being 50 years or older, it’s imperative maintenance issues are dealt with as quickly as possible.
