City asked to boost fire department resources

In light of a report detailing how response times from the Calgary Fire Department have worsened every year since 2007, city officials are being asked to look at restructuring department resources.
What’s causing the delay is “turnout time;” the time it takes from the moment a call is dispatched to when crews leave the station. In 2011 crews met their 90 second target for just over half of calls, compared to 65 per cent in 2007.
Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart tells The Calgary Herald fire continues to be an under-funded first responder and turnout times need to be a top priority.
Colley-Urquhart plans to bring the issue forward to the city with a request to consider restructuring the department.
