Judge delivers mixed verdict in 2006 death of Calgary financier

The judge finds the man who shot Jack Beauchamp, Mohammed Karim, guilty of second degree murder, while Robert Deer, who organized the meeting but wasn’t there has been convicted of manslaughter.

Both men had been facing first degree murder charges in the shooting at the downtown offices of Morbank Financial.

The judge believed testimony that Deer didn’t want Karim to kill Beauchamp when he asked him to visit the man over a botched business deal.

This is the second trial for Karim and Deer after the Alberta Court of Appeal overturned an earlier first degree murder conviction in the case.
