Park may be renamed after former alderman

A city park may soon be named after a former alderman now fighting cancer.

Bureaucrats are pushing to rename Southland Park in the southeast after Sue Higgins, who served on council for 21 years.

They say Higgins’ contribution to municipal government and the community should warrant the tribute to her.

Higgins was passionate about taking strides to maintain the natural park in Southland in 1993.

The community associations of Acadia and Willow Ridge already back the name change proposal.
