A Calgary woman wants people to stop buying parrots!
They may be cute and fun, but saying they’re a huge commitment is an understatement.
That, according to Gloria Fantin who runs the Parrot Resource Centre. She tells 660News, the birds can live 40, 50 or even up to 70 years.
She says they’re noisy, neurotic and in need of constant attention so they end up being passed from home to home as one owner after another gets exhausted.
Fantin says it’s hard on the birds who have to adapt to an average of seven homes in their lifetime.
She would like to see the parrot pet trade made extinct but says her centre isn’t political, it’s more focused on educating people.
