Blaze damages northwest house

A home has been significantly damaged by fire in northwest Calgary.

Firefighters arrived on scene at around 5 p.m. to see some flames and thick smoke pouring out of a two story home in the 100 block of Hidden Spring Circle.

A woman in her fifties and three young children fled the fire and called 9-1-1.

Reporter Ian Campbell says it looks like the blaze was contained to one building.

“The majority of the damage looks like been done to the interior of the house. The upstairs windows have been smashed out, the ladders are up against the house. The exterior of the home looks fairly intact so it’s going to be anybody’s guess as to what started this,” says Campbell.

“I came out, saw a bunch of smoke billowing from the side of the house, and a little bit of flames on the garage roof. I also saw a lot of water pouring out of the house,” says one neighbour, who tells 660News his home wasn’t affected, but was certainly surprised about what was happening next door.

One woman was taken to hospital for further evaluation and the three children were taken away by relatives.

The fire department is still on scene investigating the cause of the blaze
