Celebrating Banff Snow Days

A month-long celebration of winter gets underway Saturday in Banff – Lake Louise.
The first weekend of Snow Day activities, which stretch into next week, are concentrated in downtown Banff.
“We’ve got programming and experiences in downtown Banff from a 40-foot ice climbing wall to a Slide ‘n Ride skiing experience for people new to the sport,” Stuart Bach of Banff-Lake Louise Tourism tells 660News. “Curling rocks, which is a chance to come out and try that fantastic Canadian sport.”
A small ski slope has been built in downtown Banff, where novices can be equipped — and get some pointers from the region’s experts — in skiing and boarding.
Activities are planned for the next five weekends with the always popular ice carving festival, known as Ice Magic, taking over Lake Louise beginning next weekend.

If you don’t want to venture outside Calgary this weekend, there are also activities this weekend at Canada Olympic Park.
Alberta Luge is staging its second ALA Cup of the season, a competition for novice competitors all the way up to the junior, senior and master programs. The action takes place from 9a.m. to 1p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
