Mounties warn of rental scam in Banff

If you or someone you know have plans to rent a home in Banff, the local RCMP has a warning: beware of a rental scam taking place in the Rocky Mountain resort town.
The Mounties say they’ve received numerous complaints from people saying they believe they had rented a home in Banff on Kijiji only to find they’ve been duped.
According to the Calgary Herald, the online postings about the properties often include photos and specific details about the home. But once the victims have put down a deposit, they often arrive in Banff to find the home doesn’t exist or it was never available to rent. When the renter tries to contact the owner, emails aren’t returned and phone numbers are no longer in service.
Police say they’re hoping to speak to more victims of the scam.
