Former NHL stars faceoff for Alzheimer’s Society

A group of former foes faced off in Calgary over the weekend to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

Former NHL stars Bryan Trottier, Lanny McDonald, Theo Fleury, Perry Berezan, Curtis Joseph, Marty McSorley, and Russ Courtnall were among the stars on the ice at WinSport Arena on Sunday.

“It’s what you do when you put on a Flames jersey,” Berezan said. “From day one from when I joined them it’s what you do, it’s what you’re supposed to do. This is what we’re here for, we love to do it, I’ve been retired for a long time and we’re still doing it, it’s in our blood.”

“It’s a great event that raises a ton of money, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this? I’ll play every year,” former Flame, Oiler and Maple Leaf Curtis Joseph said.

Even some a former villain of the Flames was happy to be there.

“A group of guys that I’m really proud to be a member of,” McSorley said. “They do so much for the community, I’d like to say the best athletes in the world, from the standpoint of who they are, the personalities, where they come from.”
