Springtime brings dandelion invasion

City and lawn care specialists are busy weeding out dandelions in Calgary.

Phil Lo, the Chief Operating Officer for Weedman Calgary, says they’ve had an influx of calls this week from the public.

The Calgary Herald reports the city has not sprayed weeds for cosmetic purposes since 1998, when council adopted its integrated pest management plan.

The city instead monitors the total amount of broad leaf weeds and sprays in locations where there seems to be too many.

The Alberta Government reclassified dandelions in 2010, meaning homeowners can no longer get ticketed for having the yellow flowers sprouting up in their yards.
