BBB warns of emergency scam

One of the most common scams in North America is the emergency scam and the Better Business Bureau is reminding people of the serious dangers it poses.
BBB President of southern Alberta Sandra Crozier-Mckee says the scams increase during the summer months when people are traveling and on vacation.
Crozier-Mckee tells 660News a man from Salmon Arm, B.C. recently got a call from someone claiming they were from an organization taking care of his grandson.
“He was told that his grandchild was in the hospital in Calgary and that this company was taking care of him and he needed to wire money through Western Union to take care of the child in the hospital,” she says.
Crozier-Mckee adds that if someone contacts you, make sure you confirm who they are and contact the business they say they’re from.
